Cyaxares
Cyaxares (Uvakhšatara, Umakishtar): name of a king of the Medians, Together with the Babylonian crown prince Nebuchadnezzar, he captured Aššur, the capital of Assyria, in 614 BC. Under his rule, the Medes expanded their territories to the east to the Caspian Sea and to the northwest, where Cyaxares fought an indecisive battle against the Lydians.
